The difference between analogue, IP and wireless cameras and benefits of choosing the right system for you
CCTV provides a whole range of benefits to those who use it. Firstly, and most obviously, CCTV systems deter crime. If a burglar spots a CCTV camera, then the chances of them committing the crime will decrease. CCTV protects your home and business 24/7, 365 days a year, giving you peace of mind and video evidence in the event an incident happened at your home or business.
When you are thinking about installing a new CCTV system, you will need to decide between an IP, analogue or wireless video format. We will help explain the differences between the three systems.
Analogue camera systems
These types of systems transfer video signals in an analogue form, usually using coaxial for the cabling, the video will then be recorded on to a DVR (Digital Video Recorder), each camera is directly connected to the DVR unit. Analogue systems control motion detection and intruder alerts through the DVR. Analogue systems do not differentiate between humans, animals, cars and other motion including rain and snow. Analogue systems are ideal for general surveillance with alerts to your smart devices.
IP video camera systems
These types of systems broadcast their video as a digital stream, this is over a network unlike an analogue system, the video will then be recorded onto the hard drives, but because the video is an IP stream straight from the security camera, there is much more flexibility as to how and where that video is recorded. The DVR is replaced with an NVR (Network video recorder), which records in a similar fashion to an analogue recorder but the analytics are built into the artificial intelligence within the camera allowing for more specific motion detection. An IP system can differentiate between humans, animals, vehicles and environmental motion including trees and adverse weather. IP systems will give a sharper image than analogue systems particularly when zooming in on an object at distance.
So what are the benefits? What can you expect when choosing IP or analogue?
Analogue systems are great systems for standard sized properties, with gardens no longer than 30m, where general surveillance is required and where the customer has a lower budget. IP systems are more suited to properties where specific analytics may well be required.
Wireless camera systems
Unlike many companies Total Home Experts will install a one camera system for you. To install an IP or analogue system maybe cost prohibited to install just one camera but installing a wireless camera is cost effective.
Wireless camera systems work over Wi-Fi connection in your property. These cameras are perfect where the broadband connection within the property is particularly strong. If your Wi-Fi isn’t particularly strong this can be enhanced by whole home networks or Wi-Fi boosters, which Total Home Experts will be happy to install for you.
Wireless systems are dependent on the Wi-Fi signal within the property. This has to be considered when installing Wi-Fi systems because if your Wi-Fi goes down you will loose your images and your recordings. However wireless systems do away with large amounts of cabling around your property, there is no need for a recording device as all your recordings can be stored on a local SD card or to the cloud. Wireless cameras often offer excellent artificial intelligence analytics including human detection, audio and full colour images using LED technology.
